What to Wear for a Desert Elopement

Start with the walk

Even easy-access settings involve some walking on uneven ground. Bring shoes you can move in — hiking shoes or trail runners for the approach, and whatever you want to wear for the ceremony itself if you would rather change at the setting.

Fabrics and wind

Open viewpoints are windy. Lighter fabrics move well in photographs but need managing; heavier fabrics hold their shape. Either works — it just helps to know which you are dealing with before the day.

Layers and temperature swings

Desert mornings and evenings run much cooler than midday. A sunrise ceremony in March can start near freezing and be pleasant an hour later. Bring a layer you are happy to be photographed in.

Red dust is real

Hems collect red dust on the trail. It brushes out, and it is part of the experience, but if a garment cannot get dusty, plan on an easy-access setting.

Sun

Wide-brimmed hats, sunscreen, and water for the whole group, especially between May and September. We will tell you how much water to bring for your setting.
